Gabriele and Joe are passionate about blues, rock and other styles of music and have a perfect balance between teaching music, recording and performing live.

 

The Guitar Masterclass “FROM BLUES TO ROCK" is a TWO DAY educational workshop designed for intermediate and advanced guitar players, beginners are also welcome.

Master musicians and educators Gabriele Guma and Joe Mass will be discussing and demonstrating some of their favorite rhythm guitar techniques, important soloing concepts, preferred equipment and effects, while also sharing some insights from years of playing.

Also covered in this Masterclass:

• The history of blues and rock music

• Blues and rock guitar heroes from Robert Johnson to B.B. King , from Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana to Slash and Van Halen and beyond!

• The evolution of guitar concepts, techniques and styles 

 

EMPHASIS ON LEAD GUITAR

If you were playing a song with someone and they told you to take a solo, would you know what to do?

This Masterclass will take you through the basics of playing lead guitar! You will learn to confidently know right where to go, and chose the right scales.

We will cover the relationship between scales, chords, arpeggios and keys and show you how to start improvising right away! We will explore techniques and tools of expression such as:

• bending

• sliding

• legato

• alternate picking

• hybrid picking

• sweep picking slide guitar and more!

 

You will get practical tips to help you develop your own “voice” with the guitar and unlock your creativity and self expression!

This is an intermediate level workshop…you must know your basic chords and be comfortable playing rhythm guitar.

You must bring your electric guitar! Please, no amps or acoustic guitars!

 

Students 14yo+ and Adults - Intermediate level, basic knowledge of chords and rhythm guitar needed!

JOE MASS - Featured Special Guest Artist/Teacher

Joe Mass is a veteran virtuoso Philly guitar player, singer, and multi-instrumentalist.

 (www.joemass.com) Artist signed to Bootsy Collins' Label Bootzilla Records and frontman of the acclaimed Neil Young Tribute Band BROKEN ARROW, Joe has toured and recorded with artists such as Bootsy Collins, Robert Hazard, Essra Mohawk, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, and Rick Derringer He was music director for Grammy Award winning artist, (Maniac from the film Flashdance), Michael Sembello. Joe is a featured guitar player at the prestigious Dallas International Guitar Festival, alongside the likes of Sonny Landreth, Andy Timmons, Jimmy Wallace, Greg Koch, Gary Hoey, and Brad Whitford of Aerosmith.

GABRIELE GUMA - Owner and Director of the GABRIELE GUMA GUITAR SCHOOL

Gabriele Guma ,the guy with the big afro and the weird accent, Ethiopian-born and Italian-raised Gabriele Guma, is a professional dancer (formerly with Philadanco), teacher and singer and musician. Gabriele is the owner and director of the Gabriele Guma Guitar School. He is best known for his previous work as lead guitarist, writer and front man of his own Philly-based rock/soul band GAB GUMA & Tangible Truth, the hip hop group Tangled Thoughts , the hip hop/rock band GrindCity and now, Stereotytans.

Gabriele has toured for most of his life as both a dancer and musician. He toured as the guitarist for hip hop/soul legend Ms. Lauryn Hill, playing alongside legendary bassist Doug Wimbish. Gabriele has toured as an opening act with Grammy Award-Winning band Living Colour and N.E.R.D. His great musical range allowed him to also share the stage with major artists of all genres including Method Man, Nas, Mob Deep, Ciara,Kindred, Take 6, Syleena Johnson, Eric Gales, Silvertide, Marc Rizzo (of Soulfly), Carol Riddick, Ledisi, Nile Rodgers, Cool & The  Gang and Bill Jolly to name a few.
